About Us
Who is DIAS?
DIAS is a registered charity in Australia (CH 2072) – ABN 97 148 011 410. The directors are Rodney Callanan, Andrew Stewart, Jennifer Barker, Phil Walker and Dr Geoffrey Mitchell.
We resource, mentor, and support three trusted partner organisations in East Africa that bring hope to children in desperate need.
What is DIAS’ strategy for transformation?
At DIAS, our strategy is simple: stay low, and go slow. We see ourselves as just a few droplets in a much larger stream of support flowing into Africa. That’s why we choose to work only with a small circle of trusted partners — people we know by name, people we share meals and laughter with, and sometimes even tears.
We focus on one dream at a time; one project at a time; one person at a time. This deliberate approach allows us to build deep, lasting relationships and ensure every step we take is meaningful. Above all, we never compromise on ethics or integrity, and we expect the same from every partner we walk alongside.
Does DIAS do any of the work on the ground or is it all done by your local partners?
Our local partners hold the vision for what their communities need — they know the children, the families, and the challenges best. DIAS comes alongside them by providing resources, planning, training, mentoring, and management experience to help bring that vision to life.
While most of our work is done remotely, members of our volunteer team also travel to Africa several times a year to meet face-to-face with partners, assess projects, and offer further support or training. Importantly, every trip is self-funded by the individuals who go, ensuring that donations directly benefit the children and communities we serve.
How can I best support DIAS?
You can support DIAS in many ways — financially, by offering your skills, or simply by sharing our cause on social media to raise awareness. When you give financially, you can choose which of our three partners you’d like to support, or designate your gift to “wherever most needed,” allowing us to respond to urgent priorities. We also highlight specific urgent needs from time to time that you can give directly toward.
Staying connected is just as important — follow us on Facebook and Instagram , and subscribe to our newsletter for updates, stories, and opportunities to make a difference.
If you have skills or resources you’d like to invest, we’d love to hear from you. Over the years, DIAS has taken dozens of people on short-term visits or connected them directly with trusted partners on the ground. Contact us for more information.
Does the money get to where it needs to go?
Our management team personally covers all overhead costs — including expenses and fees such as those charged by Stripe. This ensures that 100% of every donation goes directly to our partners and their work with vulnerable children in East Africa. To provide full transparency and accountability, DIAS is also audited annually by a leading firm in Australia.
