Last month, the Weema Clinic celebrated its first birth since opening. The delivery was urgent, and despite lack of equipment and resources at the clinic, the team was able to deliver a healthy baby.
The baby’s mother was a child whom KCM rescued from sexual abuse by her uncle. So while it’s a tragic story, it’s also one to celebrate because everyone is safe and well.
As Weema does not currently have the required equipment and facilities to provide holistic maternity services, it cannot be registered as a Level III Health Service. This means it cannot provide maternity services, inclusive of delivery and post-natal care. So the mother and newborn were immediately transferred to Mukono after the delivery, where post-natal care was provided.
It’s almost a year since Weema Clinic opened its doors to the community and it has had a huge impact already! Thank you for helping make this a reality!
